Firefly custom drop outs

Kevin sent me some CAD drawings of the custom drop outs they will be using. Looks pretty tasty.

You could do some nice contrasting colours in the machined sections, can’t wait to play.

The Waiting Game

Our first Firefly road bike is in the queue. The first decision to make was Ti or Stainless. Since I have previously owned a Ti bike it was time to road test Stainless.

Normally I would need body measurements, but since I love the way my IF handles and fits, most of the specs transfered directly over. When designing my IF it was decided a 50mm fork rake and 72 degree head tube will give me an ideal fork trail of 57mm and no toe overlap. Some people say 59mm is the sweetspot, but that’s a matter of personal taste.

As a designer I have always battled between function and form. The 50mm fork rake of my IF really kicks out when looking from certain angles, it almost looks bent. It’s something I have never gotten used to and wanted to change.

Kevin, Firefly’s frame designer, steepened the HT angle a half degree and changed the fork offset to 45mm. This would give a 59mm trail and slightly slower handling. However this combination could possibly give me toe overlap. Toe over lap you say, who really cares? I personally like the assurance of not embarrassing myself when track standing at traffic lights.

I didn’t want to take the chance and have came to terms with my short comings, so 50mm fork rake it is. The only change I made was reducing the top tube slope for a less aggressive angle.

It’s a 4 week waiting game now and the big decision of paint and graphics. So many options my brain hurts just thinking about which direction to go. Will it be classic bands and panels or something with more flavor? Shall I go subtle, stealth or balls out with the colour? Too many decisions to make.

From May we will start taking orders for custom Firefly bikes. Endless will be the exclusive Australian dealer.

Full race ready build kits start from $6800.
Price includes a Reutel 3D Bike Fit and body analysis by a medial professional.

We can take the bike where ever you want, you dream it, we’ll build it.
