I have always been obsessed with websites that scroll horizontally. Maybe it’s a subconscious desire to deify my design school usability demons, that told me I could only make website within the confines of 800×600px. I have no idea what they teach at design school these days but 800px wide is awfully limiting.
When I look back at photos from rides something is always missing. My 40mm wide lens only captures a fragment of the landscape I experienced. Panoramas always look impressive so I started playing around and stitching together video instead of stills.
Here is my first test, shot around the Dandenong Ranges and Monbulk area. Those of you who can make it Melbourne before or after the World Champs try to get out to the Dandenongs, you won’t be disappointed.
It’s a 45sec Quicktime loop (14mb) so if you miss a shot the first time it will come back around.
Remember to scroll right to see the whole image. It’s big! 2170×380px to be exact.

I love the collaborations Cinelli gets involved in. They always have the right mix of heritage and modern flavor. Where do I buy my Eley Kishimoto jersey from?
The latest venture brings together Eley Kishimoto, a London based fashion and design company, and Death Spray Custom, a bespoke paint shop also based in the UK. You would have seen plenty of DSC’s work around the blogs in the past. A few examples are the Nitto Love / Hate bars, the Biteproject (Ducati 1026, Racelite Track bike and axe with paint inspired by the WWII Flying Tigers) and the Nike Tied Together Project with Tokyo Fixed, Feather Cycles and Baby Crow.

Buying an Australian designed or built bike isn’t the first choice for most people. In a country where cycling is a large and growing part of our culture, Australian brands are the minority. Knog have done a stellar job at creating a global brand from a little speck on the map called Melbourne.
Malvern Star have tried to revive a dwindling brand but still haven’t quite got it right. It’s going to take some more work to inject some of that street cred status. If anyone from Malvern Star marketing is reading start by delving into the Malvern Star archives. You can’t wrong by throwing some vintage romance back into the brand.
I would like to see BT venture into the road bike market creating an Australian designed and manufactured frame. They certainly have enough kudos on the track.
Teschner also has a rich history in racing and continue to only design and manufacture race bikes. With only 4 products in their range they can focus on performance and quality. Wilf’s SL9 build is great example of a fast, clean and sexy looking bike.
Keep it simple people.

Teschner have added some nice graphic touches. The Fizik saddle is a perfect match for the top tube. I’m also a sucker for world champ stripes on any bike.

Just incase you were drafting Wilf and needed to know what brand of bike he was riding. Maybe a few too many logos for my liking but I’ll let it slide.

Even though Red Bull’s support for emerging and niche cultures is calculated like a ninja assassination. I have total respect for their willingness to front cash for crazy spectacles that push the boundaries where most companies would run at the first sight of the public liability fee. This marketing approach was gutsy and one they could have easily swayed from, but for the most part they have stuck to it and now control 70% market share in energy drink sales.
One Redbull event that has caught my attention is Road Rage. It’s a down hill road race open to the public who can choose to race on MTB or Road bikes. There have been a few of these races around the world and one recently on the Côte de la Redoute. It’s our turn to have one in Australia if anyone from Red Bull Oz is reading.
Make sure you watch the crash video at the bottom of the post.

I’ll see your Colnago and with a Pinarello and raise you a Lamborghini.

The Fi’zi:k shoe range are pure shoe lust. Hi tech carbon construction is nicely hidden behind a simple and classy silhouette. I want now!

Elcyclista has a stunning new feature by photographer Stefan Rohner.
Stefan spent 3 weeks riding the slightly lesser known climbs of the Pyrenees. Yes I am very jealous.
